W. Baxter Perkinson Jr., D. D. S.

Dr. Baxter Perkinson was born in Petersburg, Virginia and raised in Powhatan. When he moved to Richmond at the age of twelve, he developed his interest in dentistry when he went to VCU/MCV School of Dentistry for dental treatment. Baxter decided to become a dentist and graduated from dental school in 1970. Baxter has been practicing dentistry for 41 years and is the founder and president of, Dr. Baxter Perkionson & Associates, a multi-specialty practice with ten locations and over 250 employees.

He and his wife, Elaine, have four children and six grandchildren. Three of his children, Catherine, Will, and Tyler are dentists in his practice. His daughter, Elizabeth, graduated with masters from VCU in nursing. His grandchildren, Stella, Lucy, Gwen, Polly and twin boys, Alexander Baxter and Andrew Wayne are the love of his life. He hopes they become the third generation of dentists in the Perkinson family.

Baxter's interest in art began in 1979 with a little coaxing from his wife to take lessons from their friend, Ellie Cox. He is an avid watercolorist and gives his paintings to various philanthropies. His gift of art has raised millions of dollars for local charities throughout the Tri-Cities area. He has never sold a painting for profit.

Baxter is recognized as a community leader and is always ready to give of his talents and time. He is a past rector of VCU, served as vice president of the VCU Health Systems board, and is currently on the VCU Board of Visitors.  His most recent achievement was the opening of the W. Baxter Perkinson, Jr., dental building on the VCU/MCV campus.
