Dr. Mary Keiter was born in Vallejo, California and raised in Chazy, New York. Her undergraduate degree in Biology was completed at Plattsburgh State University in New York. She then moved to Long Island where she did breast cancer research at the Manhattan Veterans Administration Center.
Mary Keiter has extensive, advanced training in the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of periodontal disease. Mary is a graduate of Plattsburgh State University and the Stony Brook School of Dentistry. Her two-year residency at VCU/MCV, where she also has done research in the Periodontics Clinic, brought Keiter to Richmond.
Three out of four people will end up with some form of periodontal disease, commonly known as “gum” disease, in their lifetime. “Because it is a ‘silent disease,’ people tend to overlook the warning signs which, if left untreated, can lead to loss of teeth,” says Dr. Keiter. The advice we have heard all our lives continues to hold true today: proper brushing and flossing are the best preventive measures to take for good oral health and hygiene.
