Meet Dr. Woodlief

A graduate of William and Mary and the School of Dentistry at the Medical College of Virginia, Dr. Woodlief is one of only 1500 in the entire United States to hold a Mastership in the Academy of General Dentistry, a national program requiring extensive hours of education and testing.

Though he sees little tooth decay in Richmond’s youth today, Dr. Woodlief is concerned about gum disease, the “silent” disease, particularly among college-age patients. “Overall, maintaining good oral hygiene and regularly visiting your dentist are crucial to keeping all your teeth for your lifetime. With the advent of the new anesthesia and bonding materials, major dental procedures are relatively pain free, more durable, and longer lasting,” he says. “And especially dramatic are the affordable and positive improvements that can be made for the over-55 population.”

A Chesterfield County native, Woodlief has been a volunteer coach for soccer and basketball, primarily for the Catholic School system, and he has served as a part-time Athletic Director for St. Edward’s Epiphany School. A past President of the Trinity Episcopal School Athletic Boosters, Fred continues to serve on the school’s Board of Trustees. A descendant of the captain of the ship that brought the original settlers to Jamestown, Woodlief is a Director of the Virginia Thanksgiving Festival, a non-profit organization which pro-motes Virginia as the site of the first Thanksgiving in 1619. Fred is an ardent believer in continuing education for all dentists.

His wife, Mary is an elementary school teacher in Henrico County. They have a son, Michael, living in Los Angeles, CA, and a daughter, Susan, living in Richmond.
